How do you know if a blogger truly enjoyed an experience? They feel the urge to get straight back home and write about it, that’s how.
On that note, today I enjoyed an afternoon of cocktail and sushi making at Kouzu with Truly Experiences. If you haven’t heard of Truly by now, well, where the hell have you been? Truly are a premium experience retailer, selling everything from space travel (no, I’m not joking!) to delectable dining.
Grabbing gal pal and blogger Anna, we joined forces with three pairs of fellow sushi and cocktail enthusiasts and embarked on an afternoon of gluttony, all in the name of culinary education, of course.
Perched on a stool in front of the bar, we were spared a few minutes to get to know our fellow classmates before school kicked into session. With all of us eagerly eyeing up the line of chilling martini glasses on the bar, we could immediately tell we were all going to get on like a house on fire.
We started off with an introduction into the art and history of mixology, followed by sharp Margarita and and the gin and berry infused Clover Club cocktail to kick our 12pm brains into swing.
Next, time to put our newly acquired knowledge to good use. Handed a cocktail strainer like a deserving pupil in a school assembly, Anna and I took centre stage behind the bar and shook up a storm.
Despite a (genuine) measurement glitch and unintentionally pouring double the advised quantity of spirit, our Espresso Martinis were top notch, if I do say so myself. However, I’ll be frank and admit that my head is currently feeling slightly weary as a consequence.
Coming at both a welcome and necessary point of the experience, we were directed to a carb-loaded table top to begin executing some fine sushi-rolling finesse.
Following a demonstration from our chef who made it look oh so easy, we embarked on maki masterpieces of our own.
On the menu we had tuna sashimi, a salmon inside out roll, and white tail maki. Being bit more fiddly than first anticipated, our chef lent us a much needed helping hand.
The finished product, much to our slightly tipsy surprise, was both picture perfect and delicious.
Once devoured, we ordered a few more of our new favourite berry blend cocktail and were granted a behind the scenes tour of the restaurant by the manager.
Three totally unforgettable hours later, we were squiffy, stuffed, satisfied and well acquainted with some of our new and equally squiffy comrades. We sat for another two hours chuckling away and chatting with the friendly Kouzu team before skipping on home.
An experience I’d repeat ten times over and can’t recommend enough for anybody looking for the perfect gift or simply a great way to spend a Saturday. Thanks to Truly for making the whole process so simple and easy, and for recommending such a fab way for me and Anna to giggle away our weekend.
